As we step into an exciting new year, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the incredible journey of Rízes Hellenic Genealogy Research. 2024 was a year filled with discoveries, connections, and milestones that brought us closer to our mission of uncovering and preserving Greek heritage. Here are some of the highlights that made this year truly special:
A Discovery to Remember
One of the most surprising and meaningful discoveries we made this year was finding a private client with genetic ties to Louis Tikas. For those who may not know, Tikas was a significant figure in labor history who advocated for miners’ rights in early 20th-century America. Working with his descendants to uncover more about his life in the United States has been gratifying. The family knew little beyond public accounts of his struggles, and we are proud to help them continue learning more about his legacy.
Expanding Our Services
In 2024, we took an exciting step by expanding into dual citizenship assistance. Our focus remains on the genealogical aspects of the application process, and we’ve built a tremendous track record in helping clients navigate this critical journey. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to helping even more families reconnect with their roots in this way.
A Homecoming in Utah
We visited Utah for the first time last September, and it felt like a true homecoming for our founder, John M. Daskalakis. While there, he had the privilege of meeting several second, third, and fourth cousins. These personal connections underscored the powerful bonds that genealogy can forge. John looks forward to returning to Utah in 2025 to continue building these relationships.
Collaborating for the Future
This year also began a groundbreaking collaboration with several Mid-Atlantic universities. Together, we aim to bring Greek American genealogy into college classrooms, inspiring Greek Americans and philhellenes alike to explore and celebrate this rich history. Stay tuned for updates on how this initiative evolves in the coming year.
Building Connections
We had the pleasure of meeting many new friends and colleagues throughout the year at various events. A highlight was connecting with longtime colleague Linda Carol Forrest Trotter, founder of The Eftychia Project, whose dedication to genealogy in the Greek adoptee space inspires us. These moments of collaboration and camaraderie remind us of the shared passion that fuels our work.
